With two priced rows there is no ladder — just two points: $266 for the 2014 Rugged 5404 and $321 for the 2015 Rugged 5414. Both are a decade old, and both carry entry-level CPUs of their era. No D-series row in our catalog carries a price at all, which itself is information: the market for 2000s-era business laptops is effectively a recycling stream, not a sales channel.

Which one to buy

Within this roster, the only two machines we could point at are the ones with data: the Latitude 14 Rugged 5414 (2015, $321, Core i5 6300U + Radeon R7 M360) and its predecessor the 5404 (2014, $266, Core i5 4310U + GeForce GT 720M) — and only for the specific case where a cheap, replaceable, physically hardened 14-inch chassis is the actual requirement (workshop, garage, field kit). For every ordinary use, a modern used business laptop at the same $300 ask delivers several times the computer. The D-series rows and the Rugged Extreme tablets we would not recommend at any price in 2026.

Bottom line

The aggregate numbers describe a museum wing: performance index median 0.4, USComp Score 3, best CPU median 24, reliability 8.5, and zero games clearing recommended settings at the median configuration — with the caveat that these medians draw on a roster where most rows lack data entirely.
