A 2017 17-inch general-purpose laptop at $309, above the $248 class median. The spec sheet promises a quad-core i5-8250U, a Radeon R7 M340 discrete card, and 32GB of RAM. The measured reality: graphics at 3.21 against a 27.24 median (−88%), mobility at 17 (−66%), reliability at 22 (−59%).

What still works

The i5-8250U was the first quad-core U-series chip and it still carries office loads respectably, and 32GB of RAM is generous for the format. Even Grand Theft Auto V — a title as old as this machine — fails its minimum bar. As a desk-bound document and browser machine with a big panel, the fundamentals hold — the 17-inch display was this machine's reason to exist, and it remains the reason to buy one now.
