HP OmniBook 5 16 (2026) Review: Same Silicon, Bigger Footprint

The OmniBook 5 16 is the 16-inch expression of HP's 2026 mainstream premium line: the same Intel Core Ultra 5 322 and 2-core Xe3 graphics with 32 GB of memory, at the same $1,400 as its 14-inch sibling. The capability transfers wholesale; what changes is the cost of carrying it.

Where it holds up

Every performance axis carries over intact: gaming at 75 in the high band, photo design at 87 in the top band, office work at 87.4 also top, with the 45.85 graphics score standing 1094 percent above the ultrabook-class median. Reliability reads 70 — 37.3 percent above the class median — and overall performance holds at 56.02 in the top quartile. Overwatch, Grand Theft Auto V and Rainbow Six Siege all clear their recommended bars, and Photoshop and Visual Studio Code both pass, so the larger panel is backed by genuinely capable silicon rather than a stretched iGPU.

Where it falls short

Mobility is the flagged weakness: 48 against the class median of 64, a 25 percent shortfall, and portability drops to 45.7 in the mid band — the direct price of the 16-inch chassis. Value sits at 35.5, mid-band but thin, and as with the 14-inch version, $1,400 for mainstream-tier processor performance leans on the brand to justify itself. The softest axes are modeling and engineering CAD at 54 each, both mid.

Price and depreciation

At $1,400 this matches its 14-inch twin and the OmniBook 3 and 7 lines. As a 2026 release, no depreciation curve is modeled yet and no listing anchor exists for projections.

Alternatives to consider

The OmniBook 5 14 (2026) is the same machine at the same $1,400 with portability of 73.1 against 45.7 here and no mobility flag — the default choice unless the 16-inch panel is the point. The OmniBook 7 16 (2026) steps up to an RTX 5050 for the same price, trading a slightly lower 41.34 graphics score for dedicated memory. The 2025 OmniBook 7 17.3 at $1,232 offers a larger screen with a much stronger 66 graphics score for less money, though its portability collapses to 15.6.

Bottom line

Fairly priced for the class. The OmniBook 5 16 delivers the twin's top-band office and photo sheet on a bigger stage — buy it for the panel, and accept mid-band mobility and value as the fare.
